UP Rain Mayhem: The heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on Tuesday created havoc in Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of at least 89 people across the state. The officials stated that at least 30 districts got affected due to the sudden change in weather, adding that 53 injuries were reported. The heavy rainfall and strong surface wind affected electricity supplies and led to the blockage of several key routes. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has assured that the conditions will remain normal in the upcoming days.

Man Swept Into Air In Bareilly

Amid the reports of devastation, a video emerged from Bareilly districts in which a man was reportedly swept into the air for 300 meters due to the strong pressure. Nanhe, a resident of Bamiyana village, was blown away along with the tin shed he held during the storm. He was immediately rushed to the hospital; however, he sustained severe injuries due to the collision impact.

While providing details in a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Relief Commissioner's office stated that at least 87 houses got damaged on Wednesday. "Due to bad weather on May 13, including storms, rain, hailstorm and lightning, reports of 89 deaths, 53 injured persons, 114 livestock losses and damage to 87 houses have been received in the state, which has been taken cognisance of by the Hon'ble Chief Minister," it informed.

Three people, including a child, were killed when a tree and an electric pole fell in Unnao. In Kanpur Dehat, a young woman and a girl were killed, while 33 goats were also killed. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the officials to monitor the situation and provide the compensation to the affected families within 24 hours.

He further asked the district magistrates to personally supervise the relief operations in the affected regions.
