Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has urged beneficiaries using electricity in excess of 25 kW to ensure that electricity is utilised properly. The UPCL has also urged the people to use smart meters and monitor their daily electricity usage to avoid any wastage.
The state electricity board said that using the smart meter system, consumers can determine the amount of electricity used by them. To use the smart meter system optimally, consumers need to install capacitor banks of the right capacity.

If the capacitor is small or large, the power factor will be disturbed, which will consume more electricity and also increase the damage. Further, the corporation advised all the residents to run the capacitor on automatic power mode to prevent any unnecessary usage of electricity in case of a load or no load.
Smart meters now account for both active and reactive power, so it is important to maintain a balance of reactive energy; otherwise, it will have a direct impact on the bill.
The director of UPCL said, quoted by Jagran.com, “If consumers adopt the suggested measures, they can make their electricity usage more efficient, safe, and transparent, which will ensure accurate billing.”

How Will UPCL Help Consumers?
UPCL’s new electricity policy is expected to help the consumers by:
Providing a correct and transparent electricity bill.
Consumers will only be paying for the amount of electricity used by them, rather than paying for the extra.
Using electricity judiciously will keep the equipment safe from any electricity outage.
Electricity wastage will be reduced, which will in turn help keep the supply system stable.
The power quality will also improve alongside the problem of voltage fluctuation.
