The prime accused in the Vadodara car crash that killed a woman and injured eight others, was taken to the accident site for crime scene recreation. The accused, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, was seen limping and clutching his ears as police escorted him to the location where the incident occurred in the early hours of March 14.

CCTV footage of the incident shows Chaurasia’s speeding four-wheeler rammed into two-wheelers near Muktanand Crossroad in Vadodara’s Karelibaug area. One woman died on the spot, while four others sustained severe injuries. According to Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar, more than three vehicles were involved, including two active vehicles and an electric vehicle (EV).

The Gujarat Police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, along with charges under the Motor Vehicle Act. A forensic team is collecting evidence, including blood samples of Chaurasia and Pranshu Chauhan, a co-passenger in the car, to determine if they were under the influence of alcohol.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media showed Chaurasia’s friend, who owned the car, shifting blame onto him immediately after the crash. Another video showed Chaurasia shouting, “Another round? Another round?” raising suspicions of intoxication. The visuals also captured him being thrashed by bystanders.

Despite these suspicions, Chaurasia has denied being inebriated. Speaking to the media on Friday, he claimed the car lost control due to potholes on the road and was moving at a speed of about 50 kmph. “I was not drunk. The car lost control because of potholes. I want to meet the family of the deceased because it was my fault. Whatever they decide should happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chaurasia’s statements to the media, made in front of police officers, have sparked outrage on social media. Many users questioned whether he had been released from custody or why he was allowed to address the press as an accused.

One user on X wrote, “Is he now released from police custody? A brutal crime accused is holding a press meet.” Another questioned, “Who gave permission for an accused to hold a press conference?”

The controversy continues as investigations progress, with authorities compiling physical, scientific and forensic evidence to prosecute Chaurasia.
