Waqf Amendment Act Case In SC: The Supreme Court on Thursday resumed the hearing of pleas challenging the constitutional validity of the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The top court granted seven days to the Centre to respond to pleas against the validity of the new law.
"The Supreme Court didn't put a stay. The Solicitor General of India said that no appointment will be made either in the council or in the board under the new amendment act. The Supreme Court has written in the order that the government will not de-notify the properties (Waqf-by-user) which are registered and gazetted till the next date. However, the government is free to take action on other properties. The centre told the court that you cannot stay a law passed by the parliament and that the centre is ready for a day-to-day hearing. The issue has been listed for May 5, and the hearing will begin on that day," said advocate Barun Kumar Sinha after the SC ruling.
Asaduddin Owaisi's Reaction
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, "We consider this Act unconstitutional. The Court has said that the Central Waqf Council and the State Waqf Council will not be constituted, and 'Waqf by user' cannot be deleted. During the deliberations of the JPC, I gave a report opposing all amendments proposed by the government, and during the debate on the bill, I called the bill unconstitutional. Our legal battle against this Act will continue."

Hope SC Will Give Verdict Against The New Law: Mehbooba Mufti
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, reacting to the top court ruling, said, "After this Act, many of our graveyards, madrasas and mosques are being demolished - and no action is being taken against the demolition. I think the prime minister should intervene in this. Waqf is not a small issue. Muslims keep the country united, and if they are finished, the entire country will be scattered."
She added when the decision of Babri Masjid came, there was no evidence and similarly, when decision on Afzal Guru came, there was no evidence, but the Supreme Court said we were giving this decision for collective consciousness. So, I hope, top court will give verdict against the law, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said.
"The emotions of crores of Muslims are attached to Waqf. There is evidence too. Our case is strong; PDP has also filed a petition. We hope that the Supreme Court will give verdict against the Waqf amendments considering the same collective consciousness," she added.

How a DM can be above the court: Amanatullah
AAP leader Amanatullah Khan said, "I am thankful to the Supreme Court, judges and advocates who rose above religion and helped us in protecting our country. We are satisfied with the decision as the Central government said in the court that properties under waqf by user will continue to be there with Waqf, and there will be no interference in the members of the Waqf board. The Central government will reply in 7 days. How a DM can be above the court - that provision (from the Act) will certainly be removed. The Waqf board will continue to be there as it is..."
