Passengers travelling on the Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express were shocked after water started leaking from the roof suddenly, which left passengers, seats, and luggage drenched.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media and has been shared widely, showing the water falling heavily as shocked passengers stared in shock.

The video was initially shared by a user named Darshil Mishra on Monday. Taking the ordeal to X, he said, "AC not working and water leakage in Vande Bharat train. Extremely uncomfortable journey despite premium fare. Multiple complaints lodged but no action taken. Kindly look into it."

After some time, he posted, "Nothing is happening, all the staff are irresponsible. Despite several complaints no action taken, Ac temperature is too high. I want my full refund."

The Times of India (TOI) reported that the Mishra continued his uncomfortable journey. TOI quoted Mishra saying, "My tablet, trousers, and other passengers were completely drenched,” Darshil recounted. “It was an eight-hour ordeal. To prevent the downpour, the onboard staff switched off the AC around my berth, which was next to the entry door of the coach. Now, I and other passengers were not only drenched but continued the uncomfortable journey amid humid conditions."

Mishra even alleged that he was asked by the staff to adjust. "Adjust kariye" (just adjust), the Railway Protection Force personnel told Mishra.

Railways reponds

As the video went viral, RailwaySeva, an official X account for support to railway users, responded that the issue emerged after "Condensate water accumulated under the cooling coil of the RMPU due to drain holes of drip tray blocked by Mix media/ Return air filter. The water, during braking, entered the return air duct, causing water to drip into the passenger area."

It added that the affected RMPU drip trays were thoroughly cleaned at the New Delhi Railway station before the return journey.
