The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has once again issued a widespread rain and thunderstorm alert across the country. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds have been forecast for 23 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar, on June 21.

According to the IMD, wind speeds may reach 80-90 kmph in several regions during this period. Residents have also been advised to remain cautious of lightning strikes and severe weather conditions.

Northeastern and hilly states on alert

The weather department has warned that strong storms in the northeastern states could lead to uprooted trees and disruptions in normal life. People in hilly states are also likely to face increased difficulties. Those travelling in hilly areas should always check the weather department for updates. Hailstorms are also possible in some states.

Heavy rain warning in 23 states

The IMD has issued heavy rainfall alerts for Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The department has cautioned that thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning may affect several of these states.

Yellow alert issued for 35 districts in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for 35 districts. These include Pandhurna, Maihar, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Balaghat, Mandla, Seoni, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Katni, Dindori, Betul, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Bhind, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Anuppur, Umaria and Shahdol.

Authorities have urged residents in the affected districts to remain alert and follow weather advisories as conditions may change rapidly.
