The weather across India is witnessing a distinct pattern, with people reeling under a scorching heatwave in some parts, while incessant rains are causing floods and landslides in others. The national capital, Delhi, has also been witnessing this trend for the last few days. The weather in Delhi became pleasant for a brief period on Monday and an alert for rain was issued. However, there was no downpour and the temperature started rising again.
According to the India Meteorological Department, light rain is likely to drench Delhi on Tuesday as well. Apart from this, strong winds are also likely to blow in many areas.
People were reeling under severe heat in Rajasthan but an abrupt change in weather on Monday brought a bit of respite from the heat. Many parts of the state witnessed rain and strong winds.
At the same time, when it comes to Uttar Pradesh, many districts are bearing the brunt of severe heat. IMD has also given an update regarding the monsoon in UP. The department has issued a yellow alert for rain in some districts. According to the Meteorological Department, clouds will remain in the sky most of the time. Apart from this, there is a possibility of wind blowing at a speed of 40 to 45 kilometres per hour.
Incessant rains have wreaked havoc in northeastern states. As many as 36 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents so far. Landslides and floods have become a common sight in the states of northeastern region. At least three army personnel were killed and nine were missing after a landslide hit an army camp at Chatten in North Sikkim late on Sunday night.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain may continue in this region for the next one or two days.
The situation remains serious due to rain in Assam as well. Silchar, the second largest city of Assam, received a staggering 415.8 mm rainfall in 24 hours, the highest in a day since 1893. Rainfall in Silchar on June 1 broke the 132-year-old record of 290.3 mm rainfall in a day. Over 3.6 lakh people have been affected due to extreme rainfall across 19 districts of Assam.

This year, the monsoon arrived in the country before the scheduled time and caused significant downpours in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
