Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for rain and snowfall in several northern states. The weather department stated that a western disturbance has led to a significant dip in temperature, especially in the hilly regions.

While several regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir received a fresh spell of snowfall, many districts of Punjab and Rajasthan witnessed light to heavy rain due to the western disturbance. Jammu and Kashmir continued to witness the change in weather conditions due to the western disturbance for the second continuous day on Wednesday.

Temperature in Jammu and Kashmir has significantly reduced due to the rain and snowfall in the region. The administration informed that Pawadha-Karnah and Bandipur-Gurej roads have been closed for traffic due to the heavy snowfall in the nearby regions. Several areas, including Srinagar, have been receiving rainfall since Tuesday morning.

The IMD stated that most of the areas are expected to witness similar weather patterns for the next 24 hours. A fresh western disturbance in Uttarakhand got activated on Wednesday, leading to snowfall in several hilly districts and rain in the plain regions. The weather department has issued an orange alert for rain and snowfall in multiple districts of Uttarakhand. A similar alert has been released for several districts of Himachal Pradesh, including Chamba and Kullu.

The weather department stated that the western disturbance has changed the weather in Punjab, as the state has witnessed light rain for the past two days. Several districts of the state, including Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, and Faridkot, received light rain on Wednesday.

The weather department stated that while many districts of Punjab will experience a cold wave in the upcoming few days, they might also witness light to heavy rain during the same time period.
