Weather Update: The weather across India is currently in a state of flux as February comes to a close. While daytime temperatures are climbing due to strong solar radiation, the nights remain notably chilly. This seasonal transition is being further complicated by a series of weather systems, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue rainfall warnings for 12 states.

Overview: Rain, Storms And Rising Heat

Meteorologists predict that a cyclonic circulation will bring volatile weather, including thunderstorms and heavy showers, to several southern states over the next 72 hours. Meanwhile, North-West India is bracing for a heat spike, with maximum temperatures expected to climb by 2°C to 3°C over the coming four days.

Where To Expect Rainfall

Precipitation is forecasted for a wide belt including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Telangana and several North-Eastern states.

Short-term Alert: Through February 26, cloud cover and rain are expected in parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

Immediate Forecast: High chances of lightning and thunderstorms in Telangana, West Bengal and the North-East on February 24.

The Hill States: Between February 26 and 28, light rain is slated for Uttarakhand and Himachal, while Jammu and Kashmir is likely to see a mix of rain and snow.

State-Specific Forecasts

Central India: Hail and High Winds

A specific warning for hailstorms and light squalls has been issued for the border districts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (including Rewa, Sidhi, Korea and Balrampur). Wind speeds in these areas could surge between 41 and 61 kmph.

National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR)

Delhi is expected to remain mostly clear and dry. While mornings may feature light haze, the afternoons will be sunny.

Mercury Levels: Highs of 29°C–31°C and lows of 12°C–14°C.

Air Quality: The AQI is projected to remain relatively stable between 100 and 120.

Uttar Pradesh And Bihar

UP: A split in weather patterns will see light, scattered rain in western districts like Moradabad and Baghpat, while the eastern half of the state experiences a steady rise in heat.

Bihar: Conditions remain dry, though most districts will see a marginal temperature increase of 1°C to 2°C.

Rajasthan And Gujarat

Rajasthan: No rain is on the horizon. Instead, a heatwave-like trend is emerging in cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner as temperatures continue to trend upward.

Gujarat: Unlike its neighbors, Gujarat might see a slight cooling trend with a 2°C to 3°C drop in maximum temperatures.

Maharashtra And The Island

Maharashtra: Maximum temperatures are expected to climb gradually by 2°C to 3°C over the next six days.

Andaman & Nicobar: The islands are under an alert for widespread moderate rain, lightning, and gusty winds (up to 40 kmph) for the next 48 hours.
