Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday stated that the temperature is likely to surge in some of the northern states in the upcoming few days. It also stated that several states across the region are expected to witness light to heavy rainfall, providing relief to the residents from the scorching heat by reducing the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius. However, the IMD also stated the temperature in these states will increase significantly after May 22.
Light Rain Expected In Delhi-NCR
While the maximum temperature increased in several regions of Delhi-NCR on Saturday, late-hour rain and storms provided a bit of relief to the residents. The weather department stated that the national capital and nearby regions are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the upcoming few days. The weather department also stated that the temperature is likely to increase after May 22.
In addition, the weather department has issued a heatwave alert for several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, and Rajasthan. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
Jharkhand, West Bengal To Receive Rainfall, Strong Wind
The weather department also stated that several eastern and northeastern states are likely to receive light to heavy rainfall in the upcoming few days. It stated that multiple states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Arunachal Pradesh, are likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds along with the rain. The IMD also stated that the rain has provided a temporary relief from the scorching heat, adding that the temperature is likely to surge after May 22.
The IMD had earlier stated that the monsoon is likely to arrive in the southern states, including Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, by the end of May. "Normally, it takes four days for the monsoon to travel from Kerala to Karnataka. Hopefully, Karnataka will welcome the monsoon by May-end," one of the IMD scientists was quoted as saying by Mint.
