Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, warning of scorching heat in North India, including Delhi and UP, amid rising temperatures. The Department has predicted that Delhi could hit a maximum temperature of 40 °C by April 10, with Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh to experience a severe heatwave. 

Heatwave In Delhi And Uttar Pradesh (UP)

According to the IMD, the major part of northwestern India, including the national capital Delhi, is expected to be in the grip of a heatwave for the next six days. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature may reach 40 to 42 degrees Celsius during this period. After Tuesday, there will be some humidity in the temperature due to the activation of western disturbance.

Punjab, Gujarat, and Rajasthan Too Will Experience a Heatwave

The Meteorological Department has anticipated scorching conditions and a heatwave to persist for the next five days, starting from Saturday.  The affected regions will include southern Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh in northwestern India.

Delhi Records 38.4 Degrees Temperature

The national capital, Delhi, registered a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees on Friday, which is about 4.4 degrees higher than the threshold of normal temperature. Delhi experienced a minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees, which is considered a normal temperature for this period. The humidity level in the air ranged between 18 to 63 per cent.

The Weather Will Take A Relieving Turn In the Coming Days

A new western disturbance is expected to hit the western Himalayan region on April 8, according to the Meteorological Department. This will bring a slight respite from the heat in Delhi and its surrounding areas, marking an end to the heat wave. The maximum temperature in Delhi is predicted to drop below 40°C.

Heatwave Warning In Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh 

The IMD has forecasted worrisome weather conditions for northern parts of Uttar Pradesh(UP), Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, predicting at least 10 to 11 heatwaves during this time. IMD officials have urged people to employ precautionary measures. 

People Are Advised To Stay Inside their Homes

People are advised to stay hydrated and avoid stepping out during peak hours. The IMD has requested vulnerable people, including children, the elderly age and sick people, to stay indoors.
