West Bengal is all set to welcome its first air-conditioned (AC) local train this Sunday. Manufactured by the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF), this new AC EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) train is expected to be a game changer for the state’s suburban rail system. The train has been assigned to the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway (ER).

West Bengal’s First AC Local Train: Time And Route 

Bengal’s first AC local train will operate on the Sealdah-Ranaghat route, completing the journey in 1 hour and 40 minutes. With a top speed of 110 kmph, the train will offer a galloping service, stopping only at key stations. According to Eastern Railway, this limited-stop service is designed to serve as a premium mode of suburban transport.

West Bengal’s First AC Local Train: Coach And Stoppages 

The Sealdah-Ranaghat AC local train features 12 fully air-conditioned coaches with stainless steel bodies, offering a safe, secure, and comfortable travel experience. It can accommodate up to 1,126 seated passengers. During its journey, the train will halt at key stations including Chakdah, Kalyani, Kanchrapara, Naihati, Barrackpore, Khardah, Sodepur, Dumdum, and Bidhannagar.

West Bengal’s First AC Local Train: Ticket Price 

The fare for the Sealdah-Ranaghat AC local train is highly affordable, with a full journey ticket priced at just Rs 120 and the minimum fare starting at Rs 35. To cater to the needs of daily commuters, a variety of ticketing options are available, including daily, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly passes.

West Bengal’s First AC Local Train Inaugural Run Details 

The inaugural run of the Sealdah-Ranaghat AC EMU train is scheduled to depart from Sealdah on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Regular commercial operations will begin the following day, Monday, August 11, 2025, from Ranaghat.

This state-of-the-art AC EMU rake comes with several advanced features designed to enhance passenger comfort and safety:

Spacious Interiors with Vestibule Connectivity: The train boasts a unique, open interior layout with end-to-end vestibule connectivity, allowing easy movement between coaches.

Enhanced Security: The entire rake is under CCTV surveillance. Additionally, passengers can use a talk-back switch to communicate directly with the driver or guard in case of an emergency.

Real-Time Updates: A GPS-enabled LED display system provides passengers with real-time location updates and onboard announcements.

Panoramic Views: All coaches are equipped with double-sealed glass windows, offering wide, uninterrupted views while maintaining total passenger comfort.

Smart Door Operation: The train features electrically operated sliding doors, which open only at destination stations, ensuring maximum safety and operational efficiency.
