Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released the first installment to one lakh beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) through a video conference. The PM interacted with the beneficiaries, emphasising the vision of Antyodaya to empower the last person at the last mile.

In line with PM Modi’s vision of Antyodaya to empower the last person at the last mile, the PM-JANMAN was launched in November last year with a budget of around 24,000 crore rupees, focuses on 11 critical interventions to improve the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

The core objective of the PM-JANMAN initiative is to uplift the socio-economic status of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by extensively providing essential amenities to their households and settlements. These include secure housing, access to clean drinking water, improved educational opportunities, healthcare and nutrition facilities, electricity, as well as enhanced connectivity through roads and telecom services. Further, the initiative aspires to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the targeted communities.

Eligibility Criteria for PM-JANMAN

Beneficiaries are selected using housing deprivation parameters in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data. Using the data, households that are houseless and living in 0,1,2 kutcha wall and kutcha roof houses can be segregated and targeted. The Permanent Wait list generated also ensures that states have a ready list of households to be covered under the scheme in coming years (through Annual Select Lists) leading to better planning of implementation.

Benefits and Financial Assistance

The Central Government provides financial assistance for eligible citizens in rural areas to construct pucca houses. The revised sanctioned amount is Rs 1.2 lakh for houses in the plains and Rs 1.3 lakh for houses in hilly regions. Beneficiaries also receive 90 days of employment under MGNREGA, amounting to approximately Rs 18,000, along with an additional Rs 12,000 for constructing toilets.

Mode of Application for PM-JANMAN

In adherence to the outlined selection criteria of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), beneficiaries will be chosen based on the 2011 data. Those individuals keen on availing the benefits must be present in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) data list. The financial aid will be seamlessly transferred directly to the bank or post account of the eligible beneficiary.
