Weeks after the death of tycoon and polo player Sunjay Kapur, a legacy battle around a Rs 30,000 crore empire has started, as on Friday, Kapur's mother Rani wrote a letter to the Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd board ahead of its annual general meeting (AGM).
In her letter, she identified herself as the majority shareholder and alleged that she was forced to sign various documents without explanation after Sunjay's death.
She accused 'certain people' of falsely claiming to represent the family. Although she didn't name them, it is widely considered to be Sunjay's third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. The company has, however, refuted her claims, stating that she had not been a shareholder since 2019.
Who is Priya Sachdev?
Priya Sachdev, the third wife of business tycoon Sunjay Kapur, who died in London last month. She was born in Delhi to an automobile dealer, Ashok Sachdev.

She completed her education at the University College of London. She started her career in modelling. In 2005, she debuted in Bollywood with a cameo role in Uday Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan starrer Neal 'n' Nikki. Although her journey in the film industry was short-lived.
She worked in mergers and acquisitions at Credit Suisse First Boston in London but returned to India and founded TSG International Marketing Pvt. Ltd, bringing global brands like Moschino, Lanvin, and Jean Paul Gaultier to India, and co-created Rock N Shop, one of the country’s first luxury e-commerce platforms.
Her first marriage with American hotelier and businessman Vikram Chatwal ended with a divorce and a long custody battle for her daughter, which she won in 2011.

She married Sunjay in 2017. At present, she is the non-executive Director of Sona Comstar and director at Aureus Investment. She also leads Aureus Polo, a team that was established by Sunjay Kapur.
