Bengaluru News: Rapper Abhinav Singh, also known as ‘Juggernaut,’ was found dead in his rented apartment in Bengaluru’s Kadubeesanahalli area on 9 February. The 32-year-old artist allegedly consumed poison, a week after moving to the city for work.

Who Was Abhinav Singh aka ‘Juggernaut’

Abhinav Singh was a key figure in Odisha’s independent rap movement. He gained popularity with Cuttack Anthem, a track that celebrated his hometown while blending local cultural elements with modern hip-hop. His music stood out for its deep connection to Odia traditions and his effort to address social issues through rap.

Beyond music, Abhinav was also the founder of Urban Loafer, Odisha’s first independent hip-hop label. Through this platform, he supported emerging artists and worked towards expanding the rap culture in the region.

Personal And Professional Struggles

Despite his success, Abhinav faced several personal and professional challenges. His relationship with his wife deteriorated after a viral video surfaced last year, allegedly showing him with other women at a hotel in Bhubaneswar. Following the incident, the couple separated. An Odia actress also accused him of delaying the release of her music video, a claim he denied.

Abhinav struggled with depression and addiction in the months leading up to his death. His family has accused his wife and in-laws of mental harassment, alleging that it drove him to take his own life. His father, noted academician and author Bijaynanda Singh, filed a complaint at Lalbagh police station in Cuttack, naming several individuals.

Police have yet to confirm the exact nature of the poison he consumed and are awaiting forensic reports. No suicide note was found at his residence, but his mother claims he left a handwritten note, which Bengaluru police have seized.

Abhinav’s body was flown to Cuttack, where his family performed the last rites. His wife has denied the allegations of harassment, stating that she loved and cared for him.
