A video circulated online by a working professional has gone viral after the woman revealed that Rs 11,000 has been deducted from her salary due to late arrivals. The video surfacing on social media has sparked widespread discussion on the workplace policies and corporate culture.

Sharing a video clip on Instagram, the woman identifying as Swati said, "My February salary came in, and Rs 11,000 was deducted for late arrivals. Despite having a conversation with them where they said they would consider my situation, they still went ahead and cut the amount. Rs 11,000 is not a small sum; it makes a significant difference, especially for someone who is completely dependent on their salary.”

The woman explained that the deduction affected her daily expenses to a great extent. She also said that for someone who is entirely reliant on her income, it becomes extremely difficult to sustain monthly expenses in a city. “If you’re fully dependent on your salary, this will hurt. Salary day is supposed to feel relieving, but yesterday ₹11,000 was deducted from mine. I understand that policies and attendance rules exist, but when you rely on a single income, deductions don’t feel like numbers; they feel like survival," she added.

She also elaborated that public transport delays and prior conversations with her employer had led her to expect some consideration. “There were public transport delays and conversations that seemed understanding, yet the payslip told a different story. ₹11,000 may not sound like a big amount to everyone, but for someone managing monthly expenses, responsibilities, and financial commitments, it changes things,” she added.

In the post, Swati also mentioned that the video is not made to target any specific organisation or some "revenge quitting." She added, "It is simply the reality of salary deductions in private jobs in India. Notice periods already feel unstable, and salary cuts make it even heavier. If you’ve ever opened your salary message and felt anxiety instead of relief, you will understand this."

How Did The Netizens React?

The video received mixed reactions on social media. A user said, "You are not living near your workplace; it was your issue, not the company's or school's. If you know you are getting late, start early." A second commented, "At this point I'm proud of my govt job." A third user said, "I lived 1.5 hrs away from my office, but still I reached the office on time every single day." So it's up to you. Next time, ghr se thoda jaldi niklo office k liye." It translates to Next time, you must leave for your office early.

Another said, "Hamri to itni salary bhi nahi jitni kaat li," which translates to "My salary is less than what is deducted from yours."
