Punjab News: A video going viral on social media captures the dramatic moment a woman thwarted a daylight robbery attempt while traveling in an auto-rickshaw in Ludhiana, Punjab. The incident, which unfolded near the Jalandhar Bypass on the Phillaur-Ludhiana highway on Tuesday, September 9, highlights the woman's brave attempt to fight off her attackers during a desperate bid to escape.

Passersby captured the shocking scene on their phones as the auto sped down the road with the woman partially hanging out, refusing to give in.

According to reports, the woman was the target of a robbery by a gang of three men operating the auto. The gang placed her life in serious danger during the attempted heist. As she resisted and cried for help, quick-thinking commuters nearby sprang into action. Their intervention led to the capture of two of the suspects, who were immediately handed over to the police.

Police confirmed that they recovered three mobile phones from the accused during the initial investigation. The suspects were identified as Mohit, also known as Manu, and Dimple Makkar, alias Bunty. The third gang member, Shubham, managed to flee the scene and is currently on the run.

Victim’s Account Of the Incident

Meena Kumar, the woman involved in the incident, recounted how she had boarded the auto at Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, intending to travel to Phillaur. One man was driving the vehicle, while the other two posed as fellow passengers. As they began the journey, one of the men asked the driver to stop, claiming he needed to relieve himself. Once the woman was inside, they forced her to sit between them and attempted to tie her hands with a dupatta while trying to snatch her phone, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

“I raised an alarm and hung from the auto and cried for help. Some of the cars intercepted the auto and nabbed two of the accused and handed them over to the police,” Meena explained.

Police File FIR

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Davinder Chaudhary confirmed that the two suspects had been arrested. Authorities have registered an FIR at the Salem Tabri Police Station under sections 304 (snatching involving sudden or forceful seizure), 3 (5) (acts committed by multiple individuals with common intention), and 317 (2) (receiving or possessing stolen property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Chaudhary further noted that Mohit, also known as Manu, is no stranger to the law and is already facing trial in three other criminal cases.
