Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has strongly criticised the awarding of Dharavi redevelopment tender to Gautam Adani, warning that his party will not allow Mumbai to transform into "Adani City." Thackeray has called for the cancellation of the tender, describing it as a trap. He expressed concerns about the lack of clarity regarding the amenities for Dharavi residents and their relocation plans.
Thackeray demanded that redevelopment in Dharavi should not displace anyone and insisted that each resident should receive a 500-square-foot home.
"There is no mention of how Dharavi will be developed. Where will Dharavi residents go? If you look at the tender, it seems like a trap. The tender should be cancelled. Dharavi residents should definitely get a 500-square-feet house," he said.

Thackeray referred to a previous project under Manmohan Singh's government, the GIFT City, which was initially planned for Mumbai but later shifted to Gujarat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
"During Manmohan Ji's government, GIFT City was coming here, we welcomed it. Modi Ji took GIFT City to Gujarat. Now giving GIFT City to Gujarat and Adani City to Maharashtra, we will not let this happen. The identity that Mumbai has will remain in Mumbai, we will not let it change into Adani City," he said.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) supremo also demanded that the redevelopment project of Asia’s largest slum cluster in Mumbai should not displace any residents and suggested that if Adani is unable to fulfill this requirement, the tender should be reissued.

"Our demand is that no one from Dharavi should ever be displaced. If Adani can't do it, they should surrender and a re-tender be issued," he said.
Thackeray also accused Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of attempting to transform Mumbai into an "Adani city," pledging that his party would resist such efforts.
