HOURS after the Delhi Police registered two FIRs against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia accused the Delhi Police of suspending food and water supply where several wrestlers’ have been protesting against the sexual harassment allegations levelled against the WFI chief.
Punia also said that barricades have been put up near the protesting site and they were asked to end their agitation minutes after the registration of FIRs by Delhi Police against Singh.
The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist in the video shared on Instagram alleged that the ACP said that they will not allow them food and water no matter what and he further told media persons that police are putting them under pressure following the Supreme Court notice to the Delhi Police.
“Police said that if you want to protest, sleep on the road. What kind of pressure has come on them today, there was no such problem before, this has happened only because of the pressure of the Supreme Court, Punia said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
He also accused the police of ‘beating up’ individuals who were assigned to deliver supplies at the protest site. He also emphasised that wrestlers will continue to protest despite continuous tortures by the police.
“We had ordered some goods but they (police) are not allowing us to bring them here and they are making the person who brought the goods run away by beating them. Until justice is served, we will protest no matter how much the police administration tortures us,” Punia further said.
The Delhi Police on Friday filed two FIRs against 66-year-old Brij Bhushan Singh. The first FIR was registered under the POCSO act and pertains to the complaint of the minor while the other FIR was registered in connection to the complaint filed by other wrestlers.
The protesting wrestlers said that the registration of FIR by the police against Singh was the first step towards victory and that they will continue to protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar until the arrest of the WFI chief.
“This is our first step towards victory, but the protests will continue,” Wrestler Sakshi Malik said following the registration of FIRs against Singh.
Wrestler Satyawart Kadian, the husband of Olympian Sakshi Malik, also questioned the delay of police in the filing of the FIR.
“It is good that FIR has been registered. What will we get from the FIR? Will FIR get us justice? Delhi Police should have lodged an FIR on the very first day. Our on-paper fight has just started. Let's see what our legal team & coaches have to say. We are demanding that wrestling must be separated from politics & future of our women wrestlers should be secured,” Satyawart Kadian was quoted as saying by ANI.
