From the next academic session (2026-27), all government and private pharmacy institutes in Jharkhand will commence classes on August 1. The institutes are required to complete the admission process by July 30, according to a directive issued by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
The PCI’s instructions to the state government and the Jharkhand Pharmacy Council follow a Supreme Court order mandating adherence to a fixed academic calendar for pharmacy courses. The council has outlined the schedule for admissions, counselling, and institute recognition processes.
Under the new calendar:
-The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) must announce the date of the paramedical entrance examination by June 10.
-The first round of counselling will conclude by June 30, while the second round will end by July 10.
-Admissions to all pharmacy institutes must be completed by July 30.
-Processes related to institute recognition, withdrawal of recognition, and related matters are to be completed by June 15.
Jharkhand does not conduct a separate written examination for pharmacy admissions; the merit list and counselling are based on the paramedical entrance examination conducted by the JCECEB.

Currently, the counselling process for the ongoing academic session is still underway. The state has only one government-sector pharmacy institute, the Government Pharmacy Institute in Bariatu, while the majority of pharmacy education is offered by private institutes and universities.
The Supreme Court, in the case of Parshvanath Charitable Trust vs. AICTE and others, emphasised that pharmacy admissions must follow the academic calendar, prompting these structured guidelines for Jharkhand institutes.
