The Jharkhand Forest and Environment Department has initiated the process to recruit Forest Guards, with plans to send a proposal to the government for more than 600 vacancies. Officials have been asked to provide updated data on vacant posts at the range level.
The minimum qualification for applicants will be Class 12. Forest Guards play a key role in protecting vegetation and conserving wildlife. Currently, the state has over 1,500 sanctioned posts for Forest Guards and Foresters, but no large-scale recruitment has been conducted in several years. Priority will be given to local candidates.

Due to the lack of permanent appointments, the department has been relying on contractual and daily wage workers in forest areas, but officials say the absence of proper training affects field operations. The department had earlier sent a requisition for recruitment four years ago.
Foresters, responsible for monitoring and supporting plantation and development schemes at the ground level, also continue to face shortages. Although some Forest Guards were promoted to Forester last year, a significant number of posts remain vacant.
