The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to construct modern flyovers on Ranchi’s busiest and most accident-prone junctions, Newri Chowk and Rampur Chowk. A total of Rs 250 crore will be spent on this project, with the tender process for its construction having reached its final stage.

It is expected that the construction work will begin within this financial year. Both these junctions experience heavy vehicle pressure every day. In particular, vehicles travelling to and from Hazaribagh via Kanke and Jamshedpur often face severe traffic jams. The number of accidents was also continuously increasing due to high-speed vehicles and the complex road structure.

Following demands from residents and public representatives, the NHAI has approved the construction of the flyovers after a detailed survey. The project is set to increase road safety, along with easing traffic flow on the national highway.

The estimated duration of the project has been set at two and a half years. During this period, alternative routes will also be created for traffic management to ensure minimal inconvenience to commuters during the construction phase.

Residents have welcomed this decision, stating that the problem of traffic jams and accidents has been persistent for a long time. Long queues would form at these junctions, especially during office and school hours. Passing through here will become much easier after the flyovers are built.

After the completion of the project, connectivity between Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and surrounding areas will be strengthened, and people will benefit from safer, uninterrupted, and faster travel. The construction of these flyovers will not only bring relief to Hazaribagh city but will also lead to a significant improvement in the standard of road traffic throughout the region.

Local traders believe that this will also boost commercial activities, as the time taken for freight transport will be reduced. Overall, this project is set to be a major step in the development of Hazaribagh and will give a new direction to the traffic system in the coming years.

“Our priority is to complete the work on time and to a high standard of quality. The tender process is in its final stage, and the construction agency will be selected soon,” said Anand Kumar, Engineer, NHAI, Ranchi.
