That said, keeping it looking lovely and colourful can be another story entirely. However, artificial jewellery tarnishes quickly from environmental factors such as water, air, creams and lotions. But don't worry! There are some handy hacks for polishing your jewellery pieces at home to prolong its life. Since the festive season is going strong at the moment, it's a great time to learn how to clean and maintain your costume jewellery. Here are some simple DIY hacks that you can try to clean and polish your artificial jewellery at home.
DIY Hacks To Polish Artificial Jewellery
Cleaning Solution
Submerge your jewellery in mild, warm water with a few drops of pH-neutral dish soap. For deep cleaning oxidised pieces, add lemon juice or white vinegar to bring back the high shine. After soaking the jewellery in the solution, rinse thoroughly and wipe it clean with a dry cloth.
Toothpaste
Use a baby toothbrush very gently to scrub dust and dirt from artificial jewellery. Pat it dry with a tissue. Using a small dot of baby toothpaste, brush and then rinse underwater. Wipe clean with a towel and dry well to prevent any water spots.

Aluminium
Lay your artificial jewellery on a piece of aluminium foil, shiny side up. Combine 1 tablespoon of salt and baking soda with 1 cup of warm water. Pour the solution onto the foil; this will cause a chemical reaction to clean the jewellery. Rinse with cool water and dry with a clean cloth.

Detergent Solution
For beaded jewellery, a quick wash with lukewarm water and a small amount of detergent can be an option. Avoid letting the piece soak for a long time as the soak can cause beads to crack or fade. Make sure to dry quickly as preserving a bead's colour and integrity ensures the colours will remain vibrant and last a long time.
