Home Remedies For Mouth Ulcers: Mouth ulcers are a common health condition in which small painful pores form on the gums, lips, tongue, inner cheeks or roof of your mouth. From hormonal changes, minor injuries, and stress to digestive problems, there are numerous causes for mouth ulcers. Mouth ulcers are usually red, yellow or white and can make speaking, eating and drinking difficult. Although some mouth ulcers go away within a week or two, some mouth ulcers can be a sign of underlying health conditions. Apart from medications, there are some home remedies that one can try to get relief from mouth ulcers.

Home Remedies For Mouth Ulcers

Mouthwash With Salt

Warm salt rinses can be an effective way to heal mouth ulcers and get relief from the pain. All you need is one cup of warm water and half a teaspoon of salt. The warm water soothes the pain while the antibacterial properties of salt help eliminate bacteria that cause sores. Use the warm salt water mixture to rinse your mouth twice a day for a few minutes.

Alum Powder

Alum powder is prepared from potassium aluminium sulphate and is commonly used to preserve pickle vegetables and other foods. According to a study by the National Institute of Health (NIH), the astringent properties of alum can help in shrinking and drying out canker sores.

Baking Soda Rinse

Baking soda is known to restore the pH balance and reduce inflammation caused by canker sores. You need to take one tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with half a cup of water. Now use this water to rinse your mouth for about 15 to 30 seconds and then spit it out.

Honey

Honey is one of the most effective home remedies known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies show that honey can be effective in wound healing, reducing canker sore size and pain associated with it. You can apply honey to the sore a couple of times throughout the day.
