Pregnancy is a transformative journey that brings not only physical changes but also emotional and spiritual shifts in a woman’s life. As the body nurtures new life, it becomes essential to offer it the gentlest, most holistic care possible. Ayurveda, India’s ancient system of medicine, offers a time-tested, natural approach to pregnancy that emphasises balance, nourishment, and well-being for both mother and baby. Rooted in the rhythms of nature and the unique constitution of each individual, Ayurvedic prenatal and postnatal care focuses on fostering strength, calmness, and vitality through every phase of motherhood.
In recent years, modern expectant mothers have increasingly turned to Ayurveda for its safe, personalised, and mindful practices, from dosha-specific diet plans and herbal tonics to gentle yoga, oil massages, and breathing techniques. Caring for a mother during pregnancy and after childbirth isn’t just about physical recovery, but also focuses on nurturing her emotional health, immunity and mental clarity. In conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr. Mamatha KV, MS Ayurveda, PhD, Principal, SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Udupi, shares the prenatal and postnatal care for new mothers.
