Jungkook recently stirred conversation after candidly addressing his smoking habit during a late-night Weverse live. Speaking openly about his past smoking habits, the Kpop idol revealed he has worked hard to quit smoking. His honesty sparked debate all across the internet. To truly know the struggles of quitting smoking, we turned to an expert.
BTS Jungkook said, "I don’t smoke now, but still… why can’t I talk about this? I’m almost 30 now. I did smoke before, like a lot, but I worked hard to quit and did so."
To make it easier for youngsters to quit smoking and to know the real struggles behind quitting smoking, The Daily Jagran turned to an expert, Dr Anusha CM, Consultant, Pulmonologists and Respiratory Medicine, Manipal Hospital, Malleshwaram, who discussed early withdrawal syndromes and solutions to quit smoking.
Doctor-Approved Foolproof Technique to Quit Smoking:
According to Dr Anusha, “ the withdrawal of smoking or quitting smoking, there is one technique that always works foolproof, which is the cold turkey method. You cannot keep saying I will reduce the number of cigarettes per day. That method doesn't work.”
She added, “So you have to go cold turkey. So you fix a date where you have to stop smoking cigarettes, and from then onwards, do not smoke any cigarettes, no matter what. Be prepared for all possible withdrawal symptoms depending on how severe your nicotine dependence is.”

Solutions To Quit Smoking:
1. You can take all the cigarettes out of your house. Don't keep any of them.
2. You can also tell your family and friends that you are doing this so that they can be very supportive.
3. You have to please tell your friends not to persuade you to have a cigarette.
Lastly, she cautiously states, “Irrespective of whatever time you have taken to smoke cigarettes, it's always good to stop. Even if it's one cigarette, it can cause a lot of harm to your body.”

What Are The Withdrawal Symptoms Of Smoking?
1. Withdrawal symptoms of smoking are mainly about craving and constant thoughts about smoking.
2. You will have irritability, anxiety, depression, and sometimes you will have palpitations; you will have a lot of mood swings like this.

Things To Control Withdrawal Symptoms Of Smoking:
The doctor states, “Engage yourself, distract your mind whenever these things come. You can probably watch something on the phone, read a book, or talk to somebody. So you have to divert your mind whenever you have that craving, and then in some time it goes away.”
Lastly, the doctor also suggests that to stop smoking craving is to opt for nicotine replacement therapy, mainly in the form of gums and patches, which your pulmonologist will be able to give you based on your dependency and habit.
