THE MOST auspicious nine-day festival celebrated in the holy land of India is known as Navratri. There are four types of Navratri celebrated in the country, while two of them known as Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri are celebrated widely across different parts. The Chaitra Navratri comes in March and April, whereas Sharad Navratri is a festival in September and October.

Chaitra Navratri is a nine-day festival that starts on the first day of the Hindu Luni-Solar calendar which falls in March or April. This auspicious festival is called Rama Navratri, as Rama Navami, the birthday of Lord Rama usually falls on the ninth day of Navratri festivity. It is also known as Vasant Navratri. All nine days during Navratri are dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Shakti.

Chaitra Navratri 2023 Date And Timings

Chaitra month’s Pratipada Tithi will begin on March 21 at 10.52 PM and will end on the following day, March 22, 2023, at 8.20 PM. Udaya Tithi predicts that Chaitra Navratri 2023 will begin on March 22 and end on March 30. Throughout North India, people fast for nine days, and on the ninth day, they worship God and mark the culmination of the festival.

Chaitra Navratri 2023 Significance

Navratri is celebrated twice every year. The 9-day festival is first celebrated in the months of March-April and is known as Chaitra Navratri and Vasant Navratri as it falls during the spring season. During this period, devotees worship Goddess Durga and her 9 forms and seek protection from evil and happiness in their lives. The other Navratri that is observed during the autumn season is known as Sharad Navratri and is celebrated with equal joy. In different parts of the country, Chaitra Navratri is known by different names.

In Maharashtra, the first day of Chaitra Navratri is known as Gudi Padwa, while in Kashmir, the Chaitra Navratri is known as Navreh. Even though the names are different all across the nation, the festival is celebrated with the same enthusiasm and joy.

Ghatasthapana Tithi And Muhurat

Chaitra Ghatasthapana will be performed on March 22, which is the first day of Navratri. The Pratipada Tithi will begin at 10:52 PM on March 21 and will end at 08:20 PM on March 22, as per Drik Panchang. The auspicious timing of Ghatasthapana falls on Pratipada Muhurat.
