Delhi Dengue Cases: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) confirmed the overall count of dengue infections in the National Capital has crossed the 4,000 mark in 2024, with 467 new cases reported in the weekly cycle ending on November 2.
“With a drop in temperature, we are expecting a decline in the number of cases of vector-borne diseases. However, the temperature inside houses is still 25°C, which is appropriate for the breeding of mosquitoes. We are requesting residents to avoid any source of mosquito breeding, such as keeping feng shui plants, plates below pots, etc, or to clean them regularly to mitigate the chances of larvicide breeding,” an official from MCD’s public health department said.
Fever, joint discomfort and more serious complications including hemorrhagic fever or shock are just a few of the symptoms of dengue that one should not ignore. People and communities must take precautions in advance to avoid infections. Here are some tips that you should practise to protect yourself and your loved ones from dengue fever.
Tips To Prevent Dengue Fever
Manage Stagnant Water
Eliminating mosquito breeding grounds is the most direct and efficient method of preventing dengue. Regularly checking your surroundings and making sure there are no sources of stagnant water are vital ways to lower your risk of contracting dengue. Water-collecting buckets, flower pots, water coolers and empty containers should all be disposed of or stored appropriately.
Use Mosquito Repellents
Taking precautions against mosquito bites is another crucial step in avoiding dengue. One of the best ways to protect yourself from mosquitoes is to use repellents. Wearing protective gear is an easy yet important precaution in addition to using repellant. Wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, socks and shoes to reduce the amount of exposed skin when you are outside.

Use Nets And Screens
When it comes to avoiding mosquito bites while you sleep, mosquito netting is very efficient. Make sure there are no openings or holes for mosquitoes to enter by making sure they are tightly draped around your bed. Installing mosquito screens on doors and windows is a simple and long-term way to increase protection as even tiny holes can let mosquitoes in, check these screens frequently for damage.
Community Awareness
Although individual acts are important, entire communities must work together to avoid dengue. To address standing water in public areas, the primary source of mosquito proliferation, local governments and citizens must collaborate. Campaigns to raise public knowledge of dengue's hazards and best practices for managing water sources to stop breeding can be quite beneficial.
