Keeping your skin healthy and radiant throughout the summer months requires sticking to a thorough skincare routine. Dehydration, acne, sunburn, and other skin conditions can be brought on by the extreme heat and excessive sun exposure. The first step in a proper summer skincare routine is applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect the skin from UV rays, which can age the skin prematurely and raise the risk of skin cancer. You must reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming or perspiring.
Drinking enough water is also important because the summer heat can cause the skin to become less hydrated. Using a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer keeps the skin nourished without clogging pores. By washing your face twice a day, you can avoid breakouts by removing excess oil and sweat. Using a mild exfoliator once or twice a week keeps your complexion smooth and helps get rid of dead skin cells.

Wearing sun protection gear, such as sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats, also helps to protect your skin from the sun's rays. Additionally, supporting skin health from the inside out means staying hydrated by drinking lots of water and consuming fruits and vegetables high in water. In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta, a skincare expert and cosmetologist, discussed the most important summer skincare regimes for attaining glowing skin.
According to Dr. Geetika, during the summer, harsh weather and prolonged sun exposure can cause various skin issues like irritation, sunburn, and premature aging. This makes maintaining a good skincare routine imperative. She believes that skin reflects the body’s internal health, so what we consume is equally important. With temperatures soaring, it’s crucial to focus on the right diet, incorporating plenty of fruits, vegetables, natural replenishing drinks, and nuts like almonds. Additionally, ensuring sun protection, optimal hydration, proper skincare, and overall well-being is essential. Here's a complete guide to ensuring your skin stays radiant and glowing during the summer.

Nourish From Within:
What goes inside the body matters far more than external skin treatments. As a seasoned skin expert, I suggest eating a clean and balanced diet and incorporating fruits such as watermelon, berries, and oranges; vegetables like cucumber; and almonds into your diet. Almonds are extremely beneficial and contribute to overall skin health and well-being. They are a rich source of vitamin E and have proven benefits for skin protection against harmful UV rays. Additionally, almonds are rich in copper, known for its role in skin pigmentation, and contain linoleic acid, which helps prevent skin dryness.

Hydration Is key:
It’s crucial to ensure optimum water intake during the summer to avoid dehydration. Water is necessary for temperature regulation, maintaining cell balance, transporting nutrients, and optimal circulatory system performance, all of which impact the skin. So, make sure you carry a water bottle wherever you go. Additionally, you can consume water-rich fruits and vegetables and carry electrolytes in your bag to stay hydrated all day.
Sun Protection:
Sun protection is essential to shield the skin from harmful UV rays. Wearing protective hats and sunglasses, along with choosing the right sunscreen, is crucial in the summer. Dr. Gupta advises selecting a sunscreen with at least SPF 30. However, sunscreen should be chosen based on skin texture and tone, so it's advisable to consult an expert before making a purchase. Additionally, some natural foods, like almonds, leafy greens, tomatoes, and citrus fruits, are known for their sun-protecting properties. Therefore, incorporating these foods into your daily diet, along with using the right sunscreen, is extremely important.

Cleanse And Exfoliate:
Maintaining healthy and radiant skin during the summer requires a daily skincare routine that includes gentle cleansing and exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and prevent pore congestion from sweat buildup. It's vital to choose products tailored to your skin type to avoid harshness and maintain balance. Opting for lightweight and gentle skincare formulations allows your skin to breathe, preventing pore congestion and promoting overall skin health.
