Why Not To Drink Sugarcane Juice: With the rise in temperatures in various parts of the country, everyone is indulging in foods and beverages that can keep the body cool and provide relief from the scorching heat. This includes sugarcane juice, fruit juices and many other drinks. However, ICMR has advised to avoid consuming fruit juices, sugary beverages, tea and coffee during this hot weather as they contain high amounts of sugar.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued new dietary guidelines that recommend avoidance of soft drinks, fruit juices, tea and coffee. It suggests people should prioritise more water consumption and whole foods instead of sugary drinks and foods.
Why Not Drink Sugarcane Juice?
It has also advised to reduce the intake of sugarcane juice as it is abundant in sugar content, which can harm the body and increase the risk of heart disease. According to ICMR, sugarcane juice contains about 13-15 grams of sugar per 100 millilitres. Therefore people should consume less or no sugarcane juice during summer to avoid high intake of sugar.
Disadvantages Of Excessive Sugar Intake
Heart Health
Overindulging in sugary foods and beverages can lead to an excess of insulin in the blood, which can clog arteries throughout the body. Their walls become more rigid, thicker, and inflammatory as a result, which over time strains and weakens your heart. Heart disease, including heart failure, heart attacks, and strokes, may result from this.
Skin Health
Overindulging in sugar can also have negative effects on the health of your skin and hasten the ageing process. When you consume too much sugar, it binds to a protein in your bloodstream and produces more AGEs, which are dangerous compounds. They cause the skin to become less elastic and harm its collagen.

Mood Changes
Blood sugar spikes can result from eating too much sweets. You can start feeling nervous or anxious as soon as your blood sugar levels rise, along with other mood disorders.
Brain Health
Consuming too much sugar causes your brain to release a significant amount of the feel-good hormone dopamine. The brain needs more and more sugar to provide the same level of pleasure when eating whole meals like fruits and vegetables since they stimulate the brain to release less dopamine. This increases the amount of sugar in those cravings.
