Winter Massage Oil: As winter arrives, the body experiences increased stiffness, joint pain, and dryness. Cold air and less sunlight also slow down blood circulation in your body. In such scenarios, massage is the best cure. Oil massage is an age-old tradition in India and is still followed in many parts. A massage with the right oil keeps the body warm and reduces pain, fatigue, and stiffness. Choosing the right oil, homemade oil, is also necessary for the best results and to make it more effective.
Now, let’s take a look at the massaging oil we can use in winter, according to the Srisriayurvedahospital.org, along with its DIY homemade recipe,.
In India, mustard oil is most commonly used in winter. This oil keeps the body warm from the inside and penetrates deep into the skin. According to Ayurveda, mustard oil is considered the warmest oil. It increases blood circulation and provides quick relief from pain caused by cold. This is why massaging with mustard oil is recommended during winter.

- Take mustard oil and add 6 to 8 peeled garlic cloves to it.
- Now add a teaspoon of carom seeds (ajwain).
- Heat this oil on low heat until the garlic turns light brown.
- Turn off the gas, let the oil cool, and strain it into a bottle.
This oil provides considerable relief from joint pain and stiffness caused by the cold. Garlic has pain-relieving properties. Carom seeds provide relief from joint inflammation and gas problems. Mustard oil keeps the body warm and strengthens the nerves. The combination of these three makes an excellent massage oil for winter.
Sesame oil is also considered good because it nourishes dry skin. Additionally, coconut oil can be a little cooling in winter, so its use is limited in very cold weather. Olive oil is also considered slightly warm in nature. It softens the skin and relaxes the muscles. However, it is not as effective in very cold weather as mustard oil.
At last, it is always important to do a patch test before using any new home remedy or ingredient on your skin or body, or consult an expert to ensure you’re not allergic to the ingredients used.
