Different parts of the country are experiencing intense heat waves, especially Delhi. A soaring heatwave has swept the National Capital as the mercury touched 47.8 degrees in Najafgarh, which is considered seven notches above the normal temperature. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Northern part of the country will continue to experience soaring temperatures in the coming days.

The ongoing heatwave has made it extremely difficult for the citizens to get out of their homes, even at night. In such extreme weather conditions, it is important to practise some important things to protect yourself from heat waves. Here are some do’s and don’ts that you should keep in mind to reduce the impact of a heatwave and prevent heat-related illnesses.

How To Protect Yourself From Heatwave

Dr Roohi Pirzada, Senior Physician and Critical Care Specialist, Mumbai said that our body has a cooling mechanism to adjust to heat by sweating, just like water cools in an earthenware pot or the classical 'matkaby evaporation. If excess sweating is combined with inadequate fluid intake, it can spell disaster in extreme cases.
