Heatwave In India: Several parts of the country are experiencing heatwaves just at the beginning of April month. The temperatures in several parts of the country are increasing day by day and escalating summer-related problems. Also known as ‘extreme heat’, the heatwave is described as a condition of air temperature which becomes fatal to the human body when exposed. According to WHO, a heat wave is considered if the maximum temperature of a station reaches at least 40°C or more for plains and at least 30°C or more for hilly regions. Rapid rises in heat gain due to exposure to hotter-than-average conditions compromise the body’s ability to regulate temperature and can result in a cascade of illnesses, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and hyperthermia. Here are some easy tips that you can follow during a heatwave to protect yourself from scorching heat.
Tips To Protect Yourself From Scorching Heat
Air Conditioners
According to the CDC, stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as you can. Air conditioning is the number one way to protect yourself against heat-related illness and death. If your home is not air-conditioned, reduce your risk for heat-related illness by spending time in public facilities that are air-conditioned and using air conditioning in vehicles.
Limit Outdoor Activities
It is better to stay indoors than go outside to prevent the effects of a heatwave. Until it is extremely important, avoid frequent outdoor visits and stay indoors to protect yourself from scorching heat.

Wear Breathable Clothes
Another way to prevent heat wave effects is by wearing comfortable and breathable fabric clothes. They allow the air to pass through, help to regulate body temperature and prevent overheating. Always prefer cotton clothes over any other fabric in the summer to prevent rashes and allergies caused by excessive heat.
Avoid Coffee Or Tea
Keep in mind to drink less coffee and tea during summer as they tend to increase the body’s temperature. Coffee is a diuretic drink, which means that its excess consumption can lead to excess fluid loss through urination and sweating.
