How To Know If Hair Fall Is Normal: Hair fall is one of the most common hair care troubles that we have to tackle in our everyday lives. Poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, and unhealthy lifestyle choices can contribute to the elevation of hair fall regularly. Hair fall can also be caused due to hereditary factors, hormonal imbalances and medications.
According to the Hair Society, beginning at age 35 with a 40% loss rate for men and growing to a 70% loss rate for men aged 80, the majority of the worldwide population will lose more hair than they ever dreamed of and they will need professional services to help them restore their hair. By age 60, women's hair loss sufferers will be in the 80% range.

How Much Hair Fall Is Normal?
While explaining about hair fall, Dr Ranjan Upadhaya, Senior Consultant - Dermatology, Laser and Hair Transplantation, Dermatology, Max Multi Speciality Centre, Panchsheel Park shed light on how much hair fall is normal and abnormal. He said that in a normal shedding cycle, one faces 50-100 hair loss per day for not more than 1-2 months. When the shedding extends more than this quantity or duration, an expert opinion is needed.

Some common symptoms of hair loss include gradual thinning on top of the head, circular or patchy bald spots, sudden loosening of hair, full-body hair loss, and patches of scaling that spread over the scalp among others. Dr Upadhaya states that human hair keeps growing all through life and has a normal shedding cycle at least once or twice a year.
He further stated that one can experience hair fall depending on different factors such as seasonal changes as well. Hair shedding during monsoons is normal, however, if there is a background deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals this shedding becomes severe in grade and duration.

According to Dr Upadhaya, some causes of hair shedding may be post-surgery, childbirth, post-weight loss, severe mental or physical stressful episodes, and post-prolonged or high-grade fever among many others.
How To Prevent Extensive Hair Fall?
From a healthy diet to following a good hair care routine, one can prevent hair fall. Dr Upadhaya suggests that it is a good idea to take biotin and multivitamin-based supplements and consume a fresh balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals in the form of fruits, vegetables and nuts to prevent over shedding during such episodes and seek a professional opinion to prevent severe hair loss.
