The day serves as a reminder of the countless sacrifices of the revered Indian freedom fighters who fought for the independence of the country from British rule.
The day is observed as a national holiday in the Indian calendar, marking the significance of freedom by our national heroes who fought for a free India. This year, we will celebrate our 78th Independence Day with the theme 'Viksit Bharat', representing the idea of a developed nation.

History of Independence Day
Independence Day is a historic day that marks the end of British colonial rule in 1947 and the partition of the subcontinent into two nations, ie. India and Pakistan. With the Battle of Plassey in the year 1757, the British East India Company took over the dominance and started their rule in India. After a century of British rule, Mahatma Gandhi led the Indian Independence Movement to liberate the country from colonial British rule.
History Of Republic Day
Republic Day, known as 'Gantantra Diwas' is celebrated annually on January 26, marking the significance of the Indian Constitution which came into force in the year 1950. This momentous day enshrined the principles of justice, equality, liberty and fraternity while laying the foundation of the government which is 'of the people by the people and for the people.

Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution played a pivotal role in drafting and framing the constitution of the country. It was on January 26, 1950, when the birth of a democratic republic took place. Republic Day is also one of the three national holidays of the country besides Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti.
