International Day Of Peace 2023: Every year, the world observes a special occasion of World Peace Day on September 21 to promote peace. It is a United Nations-sanctioned holiday that is observed annually and is dedicated to maintaining world peace. World Peace Day or International Day of Peace is celebrated with the objective of promoting peace while ceasing violence and conflicts across the nation.

The history of the International Day of Peace dates back to 1981 when it was established by a unanimous United Nations resolution and provides globally shared data for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

The International Day of Peace is an important occasion that reminds us of the essential role that peace plays in binding the world together. With every other country emerging as a superpower, it is quintessential to maintain peace and harmony among every country and people. The occasion focuses on mediums to promote peace as the United Nations believes that true peace pertains to not just the absence of violence but the “building of societies where all members feel that they can flourish.”

The theme for International Day of Peace 2023 is ”Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals.” According to the UN, it is a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace.

International Day Of Peace 2023: Symbol

The United Nations Associations imparted the Peace Bell as the symbol of the International Day of Peace in 1954. On the first day of spring, during the Vernal Equinox, and on September 21 to commemorate the International Day of Peace, the bell is traditionally rung twice a year. The representative member, the Pope, and others, including children from more than 60 different countries, donated coins and medals for use in the bell's casting. The Hanamido, a small temple with floral decorations that represent the site of Buddha's birth, served as the inspiration for the bell tower.
