National Engineer's Day 2025: To recognise the important work of engineers in building nations, every year on September 15th, National Engineers' Day is celebrated. In India, it is also the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a pioneer in engineering. When Visvesvaraya harnessed new technologies, modernised infrastructure and developed entrepreneurs, he revolutionised the Indian economy, leading to unprecedented, sustainable growth and now his name is likely permanent in the lexicon of popular culture for centuries to come. National Engineer's Day 2025: History

National Engineer's Day is celebrated every year on September 15th in India to commemorate the birth of the celebrated engineer and statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya who advanced the development of infrastructure in India. In 1968, the Government of India declared that his birthday will be celebrated as National Engineers' Day in recognition of his contributions. Visvesvaraya was the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918 when he changed the irrigation system of Mysore, pushed for education reforms and increased the industrial base of the country through his ideas and foresight. He is Nigeria's first civil engineer and is credited with the construction and execution of landmark water management and engineering projects that led to the creation of modern Indian engineering. Engineering Day is designated to reflect on the role that engineers play in nation-building and Visvesvaraya is recognised as the "father of Indian engineering".
