New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Maha Navratri or Navratri refers to the nine auspicious nights during which Goddess Durga and her nine forms are worshipped. It is celebrated twice a year.

On the first day of the festival, people worship Goddess Shailputri while Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on the second day. The third day is devoted to Goddess Chandraghanta whereas the fourth day is for Goddess Kushmanda; on the fifth day Goddess Skandamata is worshipped and on the sixth day, devotees offer prayers to Goddess Katyayani.

On day seven, Goddess Kalratri is worshipped and the eighth day is for Goddess Mahagauri. On the last and final day, people worship the ninth avatar of Goddess Durga, Maa Siddhidatri.

People observe fast during this festival to impress the goddess Durga. So here are some tips for fasting during Maha Navratri:

Stay hydrated

This is something which you should especially take care about. To ensure proper body functioning and ensure that you don't drain yourself in the festivities, proper hydration levels should always be maintained.

Eat Healthy

There are a lot of fasting foods to eat but it is better if you eat healthy and light. Don’t consume oily foods as these are unhealthy for you and your child.

Avoid Sugar

Generally, doctors advise avoiding sugar consumption during fasting. While sugar would give you the energy to stay active all day, its excess may affect your blood sugar levels.

Break the fast slowly

It is advisable that you should break fast slowly. Never binge eats as it might result in overheating and choking.

Sleep well

It is advisable that you should sleep well after breaking the fast to get proper rest. You should also try to relax and go for some mindful meditative exercise to completely detoxify your body.
