Onam Special 2023: Onam, also known as Thiru-Onam or Thiruvonam, occurs in Chingam, the first month of the Malayalam calendar. It is one of the most well-known celebrations in Kerala. Ten days are dedicated to Onam preparations and festivities, and this year's festival will start on August 20 and end on August 31.

Onam Sadhya, also known as the 10-day harvest festival of Kerala, is a lavish feast that is organised by Malayalis all over the world to commemorate the return of the legendary King Mahabali. Traditionally, during this lavish feast, over two dozen vegetarian dishes are made and served on banana leaves. Day 1 of this festival is known as the Atham, and it is observed before the following days: Chithira, Chodi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketta, Moolam, Pooradam, Uthradom, and Thiruvonam.

A multi-course, entirely vegetarian supper with 26 dishes, the Onam Sandhya is served on a banana leaf. The names of each dish are mentioned below.

Pappadam

Without these rice-flour pappads, no Onasadhya is complete.

Upperi

Banana chips are maybe the most adored item on this list of sadhaya, and they are offered in large portions before other foods.

Sharkara Varatti

Jaggery is used to make this sweeter variation of banana chips.

Inji Curry

It is made shortly before the main course with ginger, tamarind, and jaggery.

Mango Curry

This mango pickle will give your food a spicy kick.

Naranga Curry

Naranga curry is a pickle made of sour lemons that gives food more flavor.

Pachadi

A pineapple or bitter gourd curry prepared with yogurt and shredded coconut

Olan

Oaln is made with red beans and ash gourd, then drenched in real coconut milk.

Ellisheri

Ellisheri contains a lot of grated coconut, red beans, and pumpkin.

Avial

Avial is a mixed vegetable meal that is made by combining shredded coconut with veggies and frying the mixture in coconut oil and milk.

Thoran

To make the thoran, any vegetable, generally carrots or cabbage, is combined with grated coconut.

Chor

An integral component of Onam Sadhya, which is red rice.

Parripu Curry

Parripu curry is made with ghee, red pepper flakes, and black sesame seeds.

Chenna Mezhkkupuratti

Yam is fried in coconut oil after being boiled with spices.

Sambhar

Sambhar is cooked with a variety of vegetables, including yams, potatoes, or beans.

Pulissery

Pulissery is made from curd and your choice of vegetables, from cucumber to pumpkin.

Kaalan

Onam Sadhya's signature dish is made with yogurt, yam, raw banana, and grated coconut.

Morru Kachiyatha

Morru Kachiyatha is made by boiling the yogurt with black sesame seeds, shallots, ginger, and garlic.

Kichadi

Kichadi is a plate of hot yogurt with okra or cucumber.

Rasam

Rasam is a tamarind soup garnished with tomatoes, mustard, and curry leaves.

Kootu Curry

Kootu curry is a dry curry prepared with grated coconut, black chana, and raw bananas.

Neyy

For a richer flavor, ghee was drizzled over the rice and parripu, called Neyy.

Inji Thayir

Inji Thayir is a mixture of yogurt, black sesame seeds, and spices with thinly sliced ginger.

Poovan Pazham

Poovan Pazham is payasam and goes nicely with mashed-up little bananas.

Palada Pradhaman

To make the Palada Pradhaman, you need milk, dry fruits, and rice. It aids in balancing the spices.

Pazham Pradhaman

The Pazham Pradhaman is made with rice ada, cashew nuts, thinly cut coconut chunks, and jaggery.
