The Bat Incident

During a concert in 1982 in Des Moines, Iowa, a fan threw what Ozzy thought was a rubber bat onto the stage. He bit into it, only to find that it was real. The stunt instantly spread like a wildfire in rock folklore. Ozzy later said that he needed rabies shots afterwards. Although it was not at all intentional, it became legendary. But before this, Osbourne had already bitten the head off a dove in 1981.

Battling Addiction For Decades

Ozzy was quite vocal about his struggle with drugs and alcohol. He admitted to being “out of his mind” for much of the 70s and 80s, often drinking and snorting lines before taking the stage. His substance abuse got so bad that even Motley Crue once said Ozzy scared them with his antics, which reportedly included snorting ants up with a straw. Besides, he also admitted killing 17 of his family’s cats while being high on drugs.

Troubled Marriages

Ozzy Osbourne married Thelma Riley, a nightclub attendant, in 1971 at just 22. Later, he called it “a terrible mistake.” The marriage was patchy with his heavy drinking and cocaine use. Ozzy admitted to shooting mannequins with a semiautomatic at their cottage and being physically violent toward Thelma. He also confessed to being a “disgusting” father. Despite being intoxicated and unlicensed, he drove Thelma to the hospital during her labour with daughter Jessica. The volatile relationship ended in the late 1970s, with their divorce finalised in 1982.

He was later married to Sharon Osbourne (a 40-year-long association), which also turned out to be problematic. The problem was that Osbourne attempted to murder Sharon and his consequent infidelity. In 2016, Sharon left him briefly after his affair with a hairdresser was exposed. He later confessed to having multiple affairs and sought sex addiction therapy. However, Sharon took him back, saying their bond was deeper than betrayal.

Homemade Tattoos

Ozzy may have over 15 tattoos on his body, but that doesn’t mean that all of them were made by a professional tattoo artist. Some of the tattoos, including the famous one on the knuckles of his left hand that spells Ozzy, were made by the Prince of Darkness himself. Besides the tattoo on his knuckles, he has also tattooed smiley faces on both of his knees. Tattoos that, according to him, are helping him to cheer up in tough times.

Banned From The Alamo

A heavily intoxicated Ozzy was arrested for urinating on a statue near the Alamo in Texas while dressed in Sharon’s dress in 1982. The act got him banned from San Antonio for 10 years, which was eventually lifted by donating $10,000 to the organisation that maintained the Alamo.

Stripped In Public

One night during the “Blizzard of Ozz” tour in Germany, while dining with some straight-laced people, Ozzy climbed onto the table and began doing a striptease. Once naked, Ozzy urinated into this man’s carafe of wine. Afterwards, Ozzy wasn’t invited back to Germany for many years.

Shaved Off People’s Eyebrows For Fun

With guests coming to Ozzy’s house to stay at Outland Cottage in England, he would slip into their rooms at night and shave off their eyebrows. He thought this was hilarious fun.
