Exercises For Mental Health: A major part of our overall health and well-being is our mental health. Our mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being and affects the way we feel, think and act in a certain situation. According to the statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health conditions now cause 1 in 5 years lived with disability and around 20% of the world's children and adolescents have a mental health condition. It is crucial to adopt ways that let us declutter, manage stress and maintain our mental well-being. Practising certain exercises can go a long way in benefitting the overall body and mental health. Here are some easy exercises that you can include in your routine for your mental health.

1. Walking

To begin with, one of the best exercises that you can include in your regime is walking. Known to be the simplest and most effective, walking has incredible benefits on one’s overall health and well-being. Apart from physical benefits, walking can improve one’s mental health by increasing mental alertness, energy and mood.

2. Running

According to WebMD, after your run, endocannabinoids are released in your body, which is a biochemical substance similar to cannabis. This naturally produced chemical in your body floods your bloodstream and moves into the brain. It may also lessen anxiety and depression in some people.

3. Strength Training

Strength training also known as weight training or resistance training, majorly involves muscle exercises. Some benefits of strength training for mental health include decreasing stress and calming the mind and body.

4. Yoga

Yoga is also an incredible benefit for one’s mental health. According to the American Osteopathic Association, yoga's incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person's mental well-being. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves chronic stress patterns, relaxes the mind, centres attention, and sharpens concentration.

5. Dancing

Dancing has innumerable benefits to offer for one’s overall health. It increases energy, and boosts mood, as you move and perform freely. It is an effective exercise that helps to raise the heart rate and works out muscles. Dancing releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones that relieve stress and anxiety.
