Sadhguru’s Eating Habits Guide: In this fast-paced world, people have emphasised more on convenience over consciousness and have forgotten the ancient traditions that offered a better path to vitality and longevity. Based on this, Jagadish "Jaggi" Vasudev, who is popularly known as Sadhguru, has shared a detailed insight on what to eat, how to eat and when to eat, thus helping people to align their meals while maintaining health and inner balance. Apart from focusing on food choices, he considers that good eating habits directly impact physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Sadhguru has shared his vision, which mirrors ancient yogic wisdom on the office website titled, ‘Tips for Eating Healthy – How, When and What to Eat.’ He wisely mentions, “The content of food definitely has a big impact, but how you consume it is equally important.” Sadhguru’s life-changing food habits enable people to live longer lives by promoting health and maintaining mental and emotional stability. Here are Sadhguru’s ten tips on the right food-habits that help you to live a longer life.
Sadhguru’s Food Habit Tips To Boost Health And Longevity
Pay Attention To hunger
Sadhguru suggests that eating should not be considered a routine. One must observe the needs of the body, such as hunger and then eat.
Eat With Gratitude
Sadhguru mentions that “One must eat, but we must eat, relishing the nourishment of what the food offers and with gratitude of what it means to our life.” He suggests that the true joy of eating happens when the person is conscious of some other life willing to merge with their own life and become the person he desires to be.
Sit Cross-Legged On Floor
As per yogic culture, Sadhguru says that sitting cross-legged on the floor and eating is the right way to ensure that energy flows to you from the highest possibility that you can receive.
Eat With Hands
He says that when you touch the food, you know what it is. If the food is not good enough to be touched, then you must be unsure how good will be it to be eaten. He also mentions that when you feel the food, you know what to eat and what not to eat.
Chew Food 24 Times
He said, “If you chew twenty-four times, the information of that food gets established in your system and every cell in your body will be able to start judging as to what is right and not right for you – not in terms of the tongue but about what is appropriate for the whole system.”

No Talking While Eating
To enjoy food, it is important to eat quietly. He gave an example that, “When children want to eat and talk at the same time, the first thing we teach them is, “Shh, no talking when you are eating.”” Talking and eating can be done at the same time.
Two Meals Per Day
During the digestive process, the purification of the body on the cellular level almost shuts down. If you keep eating throughout the day, the cells seem to retain impurities for a longer period of time, which leads to various health problems. Sadhguru suggested consuming two meals per day and eating no snacks in between.
Dinner Time And Bed Time
There must be a three-hour gap between dinner and bedtime. Practice at least 20 to 30 minutes of light physical activity, such as simple walking, to improve your overall health.
Fasting On Ekadashi
Sadhguru stated that "We have identified certain days of the lunar month when digestion is not at its best. On these two days in the month, known as Ekadashi, which is the eleventh day after the full and new moons, it is best to have only light food or to fast entirely.” Sometimes, keeping fasts helps in improving overall well-being.
Eat Fresh
Eating fresh benefits health to the utmost level. He said, “If you are interested in your wellbeing and that of your children, you must ensure that the food you eat is fresh.” As per Yogic culture, consuming cooked food within one and a half hours after cooking helps maintain good health.
