Also known as Sawan or Shravan Maas, this pious month is dedicated to Lord Shiva to seek his blessings for a prosperous life. Sawan 2023: Significance

Shravan month is known as Sawan in the Northern states of India. Each Monday that falls during this period is considered highly auspicious for fasting and seeking the blessings of the deity. Whereas, the Tuesdays during this holy month are dedicated to Goddess Gauri or Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. According to Drik Panchang, there is a fifteen-day difference in starting time of the Shravan month depending on the following lunar calendar in the region.

In the Purnimant calendar, usually followed by North Indian states, the Shravan month starts fifteen days before the Amanta calendar. The Sawan month in India is also related to the monsoon arrival in the country. The commencement of the monsoon is considered auspicious for agriculture and harvest and is considered a good sign of Lord Shiva.

Sawan 2023: Solah Somvar Vrat

Solah somvar vrat is a highly popular and auspicious fasting period during the Sawan month in the Hindu calendar. Devotees fast for consecutive 16 Mondays to impress Lord Shiva and seek his blessings for a healthy and prosperous life. It is believed that observing the Solah somvar vrat makes the deity happy and he blesses his devotees with happiness, prosperity and good health.
