Sawan 2023 is one of the most significant occasions for the Hindu community. Every year, the month of Sawan is celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur throughout the country. It is often regarded as the most auspicious month and arrives in India at the start of the monsoon season, which is regarded as particularly fortunate and special for agriculture and harvest.
Devotees fast, pray to Lord Shiva, and seek his blessings during this month. The Sawan month this year will last for two months, beginning today, July 4, and ending on August 31, 2023. This festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This Sawan is rare and most special in 19 years as it will be observed for two months and devotees will get to observe fasts for eight Mondays.
Every Tuesday in Sawan month is devoted to Goddess Parvati, and it is also believed that fasting throughout this month is particularly auspicious. So, here are some of the do's and don'ts that a devotee should keep in mind when beginning to fast throughout this month.
Foods To Consume During The Month Of Sawan
Fluids
While fasting, it is crucial to keep the body hydrated with liquids such as water, coconut water, fruit juice, buttermilk, and so on throughout the day.
Rock Salt
During the whole month of Sawan, one must avoid eating regular salt and opt for rock salt, which can also be used in cooking. Cumin seeds, black pepper powder, red chilli powder, and black peppercorns are some other spices that can be used.
Eat Nuts
If you are fasting during the Sawan month, it is crucial that you continue to provide your body with the required nutrients. So you should consume nuts and fruits to stay active.
Foods Not To Consume During The Month Of Sawan
Non-Vegetarian Food
During the month of Sawan, one must refrain from consuming any non-vegetarian foods, such as meat, eggs, or even alcohol.
Packed Food Items
You must avoid all packaged food items, such as juices. They include so many preservatives to make the juice taste better which should be avoided.
Onion And Garlic
During the month of Sawan, you should completely avoid eating onions and garlic. Other than that, you should also avoid mustard oil, sesame oil, masoor dal, and brinjal.
