New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Vat Savitri Vrat, also known as 'Savitri Brata', is a festival that is observed by married Hindu women across the country. Vat Savitri Vrat is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu beliefs. Vat Savitri is celebrated on two occasions as Vat Savitri and Vat Purnima within a gap of 15 days according to the region. In Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka, Vat Savitri is observed on Vat Purnima or the full moon of 'Jyestha'. On Vat Savitri, married Indian women observe fast for the long life and well-being of their husbands. The Vat Savitri Vrat is also observed to remember the bravery of Savitri who fought with Yamraj (the deity of death) to bring her husband Satyavan back to life.

According to the Hindu calender, Vat Savitri 2020 is celebrated on the Vaishak Vaidya Chaturdashi Amavasya (no moon night), every year. This year Vat Savitri 2020 will be celebrated on 22nd May, Friday in North Indian states, while Vat Savitiri 2020 will be celebrated on June 5 in south Indian states.
