The egg diet is an eating plan that highlights that eggs as your primary food in your daily meals. It's a diet that focuses on eating more protein, fewer calories, and fewer carbs in an effort to help you shed pounds quickly without significantly reducing your muscle mass.

What Is An All-Egg Diet?

There are many variations of the egg diet, such as the egg-only and boiling egg varieties. No matter what the difference is this diet you have to stick to water or other drinks without calories and eat three meals a day. While avoiding starchy foods and sugar, some versions are more lenient and allow items like grilled chicken, fish, and steamed vegetables to be added in the diet.

Dt. Jyoti Khaniojh, Dietetics, Nutrition, and Dietetics, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj, told Jagran English that an all-egg diet is not recomemded for weight loss.

Dt. Jyoti said, "While eggs undeniably offer a host of nutritional benefits, I feel compelled to provide a balanced perspective on this rather restrictive approach to weight loss. Eggs are indeed a powerhouse of protein, healthy fats, and essential nutrients. They can contribute to satiety, making them a valuable addition to any weight-loss plan. However, it's crucial to consider the bigger picture. The concept of an all-egg diet troubles me for several reasons."

Does Sustainable Weight Loss Actually Works?

Well, sustainable weight loss requires comprehensive approaches like physical activity, jogging, no junk food, no alcohol, and no calories. Many people find it difficult to do it. On the other hand, Dt. Jyoti said, "the all-egg diet might promise simplicity, but it falls short in delivering a well-rounded nutritional intake. Weight loss isn't just about shedding pounds; it's about enhancing overall health. Excluding vital food groups like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats can lead to nutritional deficiencies that impact energy levels, immunity, and even mental well-being."

Same All-Egg Diet Every Day

Dt. Jyoti informed, "Focusing solely on eggs can influence our relationship with food. Food is not only nourishment but also an integral part of our social and emotional lives. Restricting ourselves to a single food item can foster an unhealthy fixation on weight loss, potentially leading to an eating disorder or an unhealthy obsession with body image."

Worried About Cholestrol Level?

Consuming egg yolks is said to raise the blood cholesterol level in people who follow a low-cholesterol diet. Dt. Jyoti said, "while research on the direct link between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol remains inconclusive, excessive egg consumption might raise concerns, particularly for individuals with existing cholesterol issues."

She concluded, "In conclusion, as a doctor, I cannot endorse the all-egg diet as a sustainable or advisable approach to weight loss. Instead, I advocate for a balanced and diverse diet that incorporates a wide range of nutrient-rich foods. If you're considering weight loss, consult a healthcare professional who can guide you toward a personalized plan that prioritizes both your health and your goals. Remember, true well-being encompasses more than just a number on the scale."
