Skin Cycling: In the world of skincare, every alternate day, a trend comes to the surface of social media. In light of these skincare trends, beauty enthusiasts often find themselves guilty of using too many products and actives, all at once in order to get flawless skin like their favourite Bollywood celebrities. Little do we know that the overuse of these skincare products does more than good. However, all skincare trends are about layering skincare products. Actresses like Kriti Sanon, Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt often share their skincare routine and one of the steps they follow is skin cycling. This skincare trend is all about being simple and effective. It has bloomed ever since Dr Whitney Bowe, a New York City-based dermatologist, created it. Here is everything you need to know about skin cycling, which has been the beauty secret of most Bollywood celebs.

What Is Skin Cycling?

Skin cycling is a four-night skincare routine followed each week. This skincare is done only for four nights in the seven days of a week. Each night involves the use of different products, which help to remove dead skin, repair cells, reduce stress on the skin and provide hydration. This skincare routine is practised at night because it is the best time for the skin to repair itself. This skincare routine was invented by Dr Whitney Bowe in 2021, which aimed at giving a much-needed three-day rest to the skin. This regime gave time for the skin to repair after using heavy products that prevent irritation and inflammation and are also believed to give better results.

How To Do Skin Cycling?

Night 1: Exfoliation

The first night is focused on exfoliation. Start by cleaning the face thoroughly. Then, apply an exfoliating product that contains ingredients like salicylic acid or glycolic acid. Gently scrub the face and avoid rubbing the skin too hard to prevent damage. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, leaving the skin looking fresh. Finish with a moisturiser to prevent dryness.

Night 2: Retinol

On the second night, apply retinol, a form of vitamin A that helps boost collagen, reduce wrinkles and treat acne. After cleansing and drying the face, apply a small amount of retinol cream, followed by a moisturiser. Retinol helps reduce blemishes, irritation and acne over time. However, it is always important to consult a doctor or dermatologist.

Nights 3 And 4: Recovery

The third and fourth nights are dedicated to recovery. These are the rest days for the skin. Cleanse the skin and apply a hydrating serum or moisturiser, preferably one that contains hyaluronic acid. This helps lock the moisture, smoothen fine lines and repair the skin barrier. Recovery nights allow the skin to breathe, heal and rebuild.
