Toner For Face: In recent times, the skincare routine has been tagged as the 10-step puzzle, which includes cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser, SPF and a gazillion mini things in the middle. Although cleansing is a basic skincare step, what comes after it is toner. Toner is one of those skincare products that is applied in between cleanser and moisturiser. Traditionally, toner is used to remove leftover residue after cleansing; however, today’s toners have evolved into multi-tasking elixirs including hydrating, soothing, exfoliating and even balancing the skin’s pH. With so many formulations of toner in the market, it often becomes confusing - “Is toner worth adding to the skincare routine?” Before it, let us know what a toner is.
What Is A Toner?
A toner is a lightweight, water-based liquid that is applied after cleansing and before serums or moisturisers. Although previously toners were used to remove leftover dirt, oil and makeup and restore skin’s pH balance, especially after using alkaline soap or harsh chemicals, today’s toners are packed with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, exfoliants like glycolic acid or soothing elements like rose water and aloe vera. Some even double up as essences or mists.

Is Toner Worth Adding To Daily Skincare?
It is not always required. The need for the toner depends upon the skin type, concerns and the products that you already use. If you already use a gentle cleanser and a well-formulated serum or face mist, a toner might not be necessary. But if you’re dealing with acne, hyperpigmentation or dry patches, with the use of the right toner, you can see the difference on your skin.

How To Choose The Right Toner As Per Skin Type?
Oily/Acne-Prone Skin: Opt for salicylic acid, tea tree or niacinamide toners. Avoid alcohol-heavy formulas that strip the skin.
Dry/Dehydrated Skin: Incorporate toners with hyaluronic acid, rose water, glycerin or aloe vera to lock in moisture.
Sensitive Skin: Choose fragrance-free toners with cica, green tea extract or chamomile.
Dull/Uneven Skin Tone: Go for AHAs like glycolic or lactic acid to gently exfoliate and brighten
