Halloween 2023 Date: The spookiest festival of Halloween is around the corner and people are eagerly preparing to celebrate this occasion. The festival of Halloween is observed on the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallow’s Day and is annually celebrated on October 31. Also known as All Saints Eve or All Hallow’s Day, this festival was traditionally celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of cold and cosy winters.

Halloween sets the three-day season of Allhallowtide, which culminates with All Soul’s Day. This is a festival that includes play dress-ups and on this day, people roam on the streets wearing spooky costumes and enjoy candies while ‘trick or treating.’ It also includes the ritual of knocking at people’s doors and saying ‘trick or treat’. People decorate their homes with spooky and scary stuff which is also referred to as the ‘Pumpkin season.’

Halloween 2023: History

The tradition of Halloween originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where people used to light bonfires and wear innovative costumes to ward off ghosts and evil spirits. According to popular belief, in the 18th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as the time dedicated to all saints, which came to be known as All Saint’s Day.

On the eve evening of All Saints Day, Halloween was celebrated with activities like trick or treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats. The first celebration of Halloween in European countries included play parties, which were public events hosted to celebrate the harvest.

Halloween is celebrated as a secular holiday in the United States and other European countries and is associated with several fun activities. One of the iconic parts of Halloween celebrations includes people pulling harmless pranks on one another and dressing up in spooky costumes.

People also wear masks trick or treaters go from house to house with the threat that they will pull a trick if they do not receive a trick, which usually includes candies. Jack-o-lantern is another significant tradition of Halloween in which a hollowed-out pumpkin is carved into a scary face, and a candle is lit inside it.
