Benefits Of Vegan Diet
Weight Loss
Vegan diet or plant-based diet, as the name suggests, includes foods made of plant sources. These include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. They are a good source of fibre that keeps unnecessary cravings at bay. Thus, a vegan diet promotes weight loss. As compared to meat-eaters, vegans are approximately one-ninth as likely to be obese.
Heart Health
A vegan diet promotes heart health as it is rich in antioxidants. People who consume animal-based foods are at an increased risk of many other illnesses, like obesity, diabetes which can ultimately result in heart diseases. Thus, switching to plant-based diet is beneficial for the heart.
Diabetes
A plant-based diet offers protection against type 2 diabetes as it is low in sugar. A wholefood vegan diet tends to supply plenty of lower glycaemic index (GI) foods which are rich in dietary fibre. These wholegrains help stabilise blood sugar by slowing down digestion.

Cancer
Several studies suggest that vegans have a reduced risk of developing the risk of cancer, particularly of the colon and breast. This is due to the presence of antioxidants, vitamins and phytochemicals found in plant-based foods. A vegan diet help protect the body from oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which are linked to cancer development.
Digestion
Incorporating a plant-based diet helps make positive changes in the gut microbiome, encouraging digestion. Eating vegan foods supply different fibres that help the gut bacteria to flourish and increase in number, thus aiding the digestion process.
